Health Worker Registry Benefits and Challenges- We want your opinions

Dear HWR Community Members,

We are in the process of revising a 2 page overview document for the OpenHIE Health Worker Registry. Please take 5 minutes to offer your opinions based on your experience in your country and engagement with stakeholders. The two page overview
document should clearly present the HWR’s value and purpose to the health system and broadly identify the likely issues to consider before moving towards implementing a HWR. I’m confident if everyone responds with their top three opinions for purpose and challenges,
we’ll have a rather complete list. If you could email me back the below lists by tomorrow’s community call I would appreciate it.

Many thanks

Michael

Top 3 reasons a Health Worker Registry will help employers, regulatory councils and government officials:

Example: Employers can verify a potential current or prospective employee’s current regulatory status by querying the HWR, rather than inquire directly with the professional council.

Top 3 challenges in getting health workforce and government stakeholders on board with implementing a national health worker registry. This could include implementation issues.

Example: Majority of public and private healthcare employers do not have accurate and reliable health worker data in electronic form ie. information systems or spreadsheets

Regulatory bodies can verify that the constitutions are where they say they are in terms of employment and location

Both employer and regulatory bodies can verify that the employee/prospective employee is in good standing order (no disciplinary actions taken or pending against them)

HWR provides a central point for aggregated national data on the health workforce hence provides a snapshots of where the country is at any point in time

HWR enables all heath stakeholders and partners to monitor national HRH goals and targets together – everyone has the same information. No knowledge gaps

This is what comes to mind,
